A letter to the 'present' generation parents

Dear Parents,
'knowing just book' is no longer enough. Never has been, never will be. Or how else will the world strike a balance? If we all became doctors and lawyers, who is responsible for the clothes we wear? If we were all engineers or pharmacologist who entertains you and gets you grooving to that hot jam? Or who even makes that delicious 'ofe-akwu' you always salivate for?

The truths you need to know about real relationships

If you grew up reading a lot of novels  (like I did) and believing all you read, then go through life to act out like all those novels or you watched way too much movies where all the acts where just too 'purr-fect'; do yourself a favour: get a glass of water and splash on your face. Good job. Wake up to reality.

What they didn't tell you about being a SAHM

1. Your once ever so organised life would most times be a total mess. Let me explain. How can you keep a house and a toddler(s) clean 24/7? How? Either one or both's gotta give. As you are tidying up it's getting messed up at the very moment. Sometimes I'm arranging and the little one is happy helping mummy out by scattering everything. And when you turn at her in total exasperation she gives you her toothless smile. That smile gets me everytime. I end up picking her up and other times, with clothes strewn all over the place, we just lay on them and goof around. Clean up can wait. My baby is fast growing.

Where did your name go?

Hardly had I dropped 'Baby is here' post that I got a mail. But dear mailer, why did you not drop a comment? Who does that? Joor, help my ministry.

Baby is here!

And mummy is good. That's all that matters. Thank you.

How hard could this be? Very hard. For some. A woman carries a baby 10 months of a 12 months calendar( yes 10, bite me), the tiniest you can do is to congratulate her, wish baby well and be happy. Every other thing can come later.

In the beginning, it was not so

Visiting the western world say, for summer and actually living there are different ends of a long stick ('JJC' welcome to life abroad, I will write another post entirely on culture shock). Sometimes, some 'oyibo' actually think you don't know anything. And you need all the help when your lingua franca isn't same as theirs. Be prepared to look stupid sometimes. O! Yes, a whole new language can pass you off so.

English Please...

this is not my picture

Neocolonialism: is when you as a parent, for reasons best known to you prefers to not just call your child by a foreign name (which isn't bad) but go as far as denying that child the knowledge of his mother tongue. It is when Emeka only knows how to speak English and Ekpe from Ibibio, Portuguese.
