Enjoying your summer holiday

It's that time of the year when most people get to take it slow, calm their nerves, rejuvenate and then plan again. Some take out time to go on vacations. Here, I will be giving you tips on how to maximise your vacations. But before then, where I come from, we have only 2 seasons, well, as we were taught in school. Rainy season and Dry season. We do not have the Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. Just Rainy and Dry seasons and the sunny ones in between. We have more sun in a 12 year calendar, so it might be safe to say, for the most part, it's always summer in my part of Africa. That's why I try to wrap my fingers around the term used by organisations or individuals promoting summer time activities.

Sorry, I deviate.

So here are my tips to have a wonderful vacation anywhere your 'summer' break takes you.

1. Do not go alone. If you're single, get some friends to go with you. Plan ahead of time. Could be an all girls' or all boys' thing. If you're not, go with family. Just don't go alone, unless if you must. Create memories, have fun, bond.

2. Move around. Don't just sit in your room and enjoy the services of the hotel. Or sit by the pool/beach side sipping Möet and Chandon. Or just going to the spa. Take in sites, sights and sounds of where you are. Try some local dish.

3. Pack stylish. Pack comfortable but stylish and trendy wears. Ensure they are comfortable. You don't have to break a bank to do that. Throw in your sunshade, camera, etc. Since you might be out most times, having a good back pack or a sling over type of bag with your essentials in it just might be a good idea.

4. Have some time out. Yes even with friends and family. Do something you really love, away from everyone. It's not selfish. Unless you have very dependent kids. Be a lone Wolf and do you. When you regroup, it's all the more fun.

5. Dress to impress. You already packed beautiful clothes or intend to buy some. What are you saving them for? Go for lunch or dinner dates with yourself or friends or family and actually dress up. You will love you for it.

6. Get off your comfort zone. Do what you haven't done before. You don't have to follow to the letter, a list you made. Pick a few of the language, try something new, just do something different.

7. Send pictures to me. Or a return ticket to go with you next time.
